SITE MAP

On 12th September 2003, the index page http://wehner.org/index.htm was changed to a new one which has frames, and offers more choice than just Addison's disease.

The original index page became http://wehner.org/addison.htm . This can be reached from the buttons on the left-hand frame ( http://wehner.org/site.htm ) or from the menu in the right-hand panel ( http://wehner.org/menu.htm ) which is the first frame seen.

The ZIP file, supplied for universities, medical schools and students, continues to have Addison's disease as the index file. Thus, when downloaded, the ZIP file will deliver the Addison files alone. SEE PANEL AT BOTTOM OF PAGE.

New directories to cover the new technical subjects are 3D, agrav, euler, and electro with internal directory short. The page download.htm was also added to the main directory, and uses directory tools which contains directory animate.

Whilst the site was devoted to Addison`s disease, the index.htm in the main directory was the entry point. Thus, when mirrored to a site myschool.ac the URL http://www.myschool.ac/wehner/ will go straight to the Addison menu. This would be the equivalent of the old URL http://www.wehner.org or the new URL .http://wehner.org/addison.htm.

Index.htm in the ZIP file, or addison.htm, is supported by the tiny fabric.gif and the animated addison.gif

There are also results.gif and mirror.gif

There are just two directories:

addison
cgi-bin

Addison contains index.htm amongst its files. Thus wehner.org/addison/ goes directly to the introduction to the book. The preface pages are x0.htm to x6.htm and the book is p1.htm to p39.htm.

The explanations of the plates are e1.htm to e3.htm followed by plate1.htm to plate11.htm, which contain a .jpg image of the same name each. plate11.htm loops back of the outer directory by means of ../index.htm when the finish button is pressed.

There are fourteen directories within the addison directory, each with an index.htm

The directories (eight letters or less per name) are:

whatis
history
first
canstatt
wilks
louis
(Martineau)
greenhow
fagge
congress
cv
weights
images
canine
berlin

The link from the word Addison in the introduction of the book takes you to the index of the cv/ directory. Thus, the URL http://www.wehner.org/addison/cv/ will deliver the biographies. Clicking on special symbols will take you to http://www.wehner.org/addison/weights/ showing the weights and measures of the day. Clicking on the pictures in the book will take you to the images/ directory to show a larger version of that picture. Instead of being plates (eg plate1.jpg) they will be named after the subject (eg ../addison/images/wootten.jpg).

Because the images/ are not supported by an .htm document, you must use the BACK button of the browser to return from enlarged images.

cv/ and weights/ will take you back to the index page of the addison/ directory.

Most other directories return to the home page - the index.htm of the wehner.org website, with its animated .gif. The instruction to do this is "HREF=../../index.htm" (back two levels). Such relative addresses were used to make the site easy to mirror.

There are no further directories within these directories.

To mirror the site, first prepare your computer by making a directory wehner with directories cgi-bin and addison and the other directories within the latter. Then click on the link below. Each file required to rebuild the site locally will be offered in a consecutive list. You will retain full control.

A further use for the Mirror program is to inspect the site without downloading anything. Simply click below the image at the bottom of this page, and move from directory to directory.

By this means, it becomes possible to select any individual file without the need to download everything. SIMILARLY, A MIRROR COPY OF THE SITE MAY BE BROUGHT UP TO DATE BY ADDING NEW FILES, AND BY OVERLAYING OUT-OF-DATE FILES WITH THE NEW ONES.

The Mirror program may be accessed directly:
To mirror wilks.gif in the addison/wilks directory to a floppy or directory, type:
http://wehner.org/cgi-bin/mirror.pl/addison/wilks/wilks.gif

It is possible even to go to an internet cafe with a box of ten floppy disks and capture the whole site to take home. Total bytes are quoted for each directory.

The site and perl programs were tested on Lynx, Mosaic, Netscape Navigator 2.0, and several versions of Internet Explorer.

The search engine is of type grep. If you do not want it, remove the search section from the index.htm of the home page. Both search.pl and mirror.pl will require the shebang line (#!/usr/bin/perl) to be adapted to the location of perl.exe on your system.

Please do make the effort to make the Mirror program work, so that others - such as students - have the chance to obtain copies of the site. The URL must be changed at the top of the perl programs (eg: my $base=http://wehner.org)

If you mirror the site to a home computer, such as at directory c:/wehner, you can access the entire site off-line at top speed from a browser, but the search engine and mirror program will only work if you have a local intranet server for on-line simulation and a copy of perl.exe.
